Citation:

On the night of 22 May 1948, whilst advancing on Uri-Dome1 Road, 7 Sikh Regiment came under heavy enemy fire. The leading platoon was pinned down in a nullah by incessant mortar and LMG fire. The communication between the platoon and company HQ broke down. It became imperative for the platoon to withdraw. In the pitch dark no signaling was possible. Sepoy Sewa Singh went forward from his Company HQ under intensive fire and communicated the orders to the platoon. He not only carried out his mission successfully but also brought back a severely wounded sepoy from the forward line. Again, on 24 August a fighting patrol went forward into enemy occupied territory. Sepoy Sewa Singh was the leading scout of the patrol. On contact with the enemy, the patrol came under heavy fire. Three men were wounded but the patrol continued their advance. The deadly grenade throwing of Sepoy Sewa Singh was largely responsible for the enemy's hasty retreat. This gallant sepoy, though exposed to enemy fire, disregarding any risk to personal safety went round and collected our casualties and brought them back.

Sepoy Sewa Singh's courageous and gallant actions set an excellent example of devotion to duty.
