Jemadar Shaik Khader Sahib was with 1 Madras right throughout its spell of service in the Jammu & Kashmir area. On two occasions he ambushed large parties of enemy and killed a total of 27. When commanding a platoon defence position, he was repeatedly and heavily attacked by large parties of enemy but though grossly outnumbered he held to his position and finally stayed the enemy. During the advance on Tithwal, Jemadar Khader was always with the leading company rendering help where needed, superintending ammunition supply and at times carrying it forward himself. 

When Tithwal was evacuated, he made several trips to and fro entirely oblivious of the heavy enemy fire on the approaches; he stayed till the end supervising the evacuation of all the battalion stores. Jemadar Shaik Khader always showed resourcefulness and great forethought and was an asset in the maintenance of morale.
