Citation:

Sepoy Sher Singh was the Bren Gun No. 2 of his platoon which was rushed on 13 October 1948, in Tithwal area of J & K, to reinforce 'A' Company after the latter had come under heavy enemy attack and suffered many casualties. The enemy had also blocked the track leading to the 'A' Company position by continuous shelling. Defying death, Sepoy Sher Singh kept on advancing towards the position and also simultaneously feeding his No. 1 with the ammunition. When his No. 1 bren gunner was hit by the bullet, Sepoy Sher Singh started manning the gun single-handedly and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. He was chiefly responsible for repulsing the enemy attack. He cheerfully kept his bren gun in action in spite of heavy shelling by the enemy.

Sepoy Sher Singh showed remarkable courage and devotion to duty till the time he himself was killed in the action.
