Citation:

Major Sher Singh was commanding a company which was assigned the task of capturing an enemy position in the Rajasthan Sector. The position to be captured was held in strength by the enemy and was fortified with mines and obstacles. During the attack, the enemy brought down heavy and accurate small arms fire and shelling. Showing utter disregard for his personal safety, and undaunted by the heavy volume of enemy fire, Major Sher Singh led his men in a lightning attack.

His men then captured the post after fierce hand-to-hand fighting inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. In this action, Major Sher Singh displayed gallantry, determination and leadership of a high order.
