Shri P K Subramanian, Civil Driver in Civil GT Company, was working in Sri Lanka as a part of the Indian peacekeeping Force. His vehicle was a part of a convoy of four vehicles carrying ammunition and urgent essential stores from Base Headquarters to forward troops. There were two JCOs and three other ranks in his vehicles along with essential operational stores for the forces. Only 15 km before the destination a mortar shell fell near his vehicle, and a part of the driver's cabin and the middle portion of the vehicle were damaged.

Then, one PRG came and fell on the bonnet and due to the breaking of the windscreen, Shri Subramanian and two Junior Commissioned Officers were seriously injured. In complete disregard of danger from the militants, this brave driver continued to drive his vehicle and reached his destination. Then, due to lose of blood he fell unconscious and was taken to a hospital.

Showing exemplary courage and a strong sense of duty, Civilian Driver EK. Subramanian saved the lives of his colleagues and delivered the essential stores at their destination.
