Citation:

Sepoy Teja Singh was wireless operator of a section picquet on 6 July 1948 at Machhoi when the enemy put an attack. A direct mortar hit put his set out of commission and he got wounded in his left arm. There being no other communication with the commander, this signaler volunteered to go out some 300 yards to the main telephone line with his telephone to pass information to the commander.

He moved out in full view of the enemy and under intense enemy MMG fire. He was again hit in the thigh but managed to tap the line and send the message. Then he dashed back to join the battle, although bleeding heavily. When only some 20 yards from the picquet he was hit by an MMG burst in the chest and died. This young signaler displayed supreme courage and determination in carrying out his duties.
