Citation:

On the night of 14 November 1948, Lance Naik Dharam Singh Thapa commanded a forward section of a company, which attacked a slope of a heavily defended feature in Jammu and Kashmir State. He led his section halfway up the hill, but soon came under very close fire from two enemy bunkers and was pinned to the ground. He arranged the covering fire and charged the bunker with such determination that the enemy left the bunkers in panic without putting up a fight. Again when they came close to the feature, they were pinned down by accurate enemy fire. Faced with this danger, Lance Naik Thapa fired boldly from point blank range and forced the enemy to flee, leaving four dead behind. It was due to the daring and dashing leadership of Lance Naik Thapa and his disregard for personal safety that the objective was captured.
