Citation:
Captain Tirath Singh was attached to a rifle company as a forward observation officer in an assault on the enemy post in the Eastern Sector. The enemy was holding a well-fortified position supported by medium machine guns and brought down sustained and accurate fire wounding one of the platoon commanders. Captain Tirath Singh immediately took charge of the platoon and led the assault on the enemy strongpoint and destroyed it.

In this action, Captain Tirath Singh displayed commendable courage and initiative.
