Citation:

On an attachment with 118 Field Regiment during Operation Meghdoot, Captain Sahill Sharma volunteered to man the 'Amar' Observation Post in Bilafondla Glacier. During this tenure, he not only destroyed an enemy observation post, six bunkers, one fibre glass hut, and large quantity of ammunition but also neutralised 105-mm guns. On 22 February 1995, he was ordered to engage enemy's Three Pimple Post. He commenced shooting at 1300 hours and within two hours the enemy started retaliating with accurate and heavy volume of air burst artillery fire. He had barely directed 19 rounds when he was struck with an air burst splinter on his head. Bleeding profusely and braving temperature of minus 30 degrees celsius, wind velocity of 90 kilometer per hour and intense enemy shelling, he continued to direct the fire till the enemy post was completely destroyed. Though he later died at the Base Camp, he is credited with accomplishing his mission with courage, professional brilliance and maturity of mind.
