Citation:

Lance Naik Janak Singh was with a party detailed to raid an enemy post in the Gurais Sector on 5 December 1971. He was the leading scout when the enemy opened up with machine guns. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he charged and destroyed the enemy machine gun bunker but was mortally wounded and died on the spot.

In this action, Lance Naik Janak Singh showed courage and initiative of a higher order.
